Dear friend,

Welcome to the homepage of the newly established New York Chapter of the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation.

ISSNAF is a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting R&D interaction among Italians active in North America and Italian academic and non-academic institutions in the field of biology, humanities, medicine, mathematics, physics, engineering, information technology, and social sciences.

This is the first regional chapter and will include ISSNAF eligible members in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Although there are currently only a few dozen of active ISSNAF members in these locations, we have over 300 contacts and we will be contacting them in the following days to make them aware of the New York Chapter, explaining the benefits of the membership. These include being part of an exclusive network of scientists and scholars, with personal pages searchable through the ISSNAF member database. Members can edit their personal information and choose what content is public and what is accessible only to other members. This is a unique opportunity to connect or re-connect with Italy, as ISSNAF has become the main contact for Italian institutions and companies seeking research collaborations in the United States and Canada, promoting fellowships and exchange programs.

The New York Chapter will carry out its activities in Manhattan, in collaboration with the main academic institutions and organizations of the region. The Chapter will organize a series of seminars on a range of topics and open to the general public. The seminars will be conducted in English and run in a form accessible also to non specialists. The first event, listed for the 25th of February, will focus on the most recent applications of systems biology to cancer research. For the second event, on  March 24, researchers of the Bank of Italy will discuss current issues concerning the Italian economy with researchers working in the US. Other topics on the program include sustainability, alternative energy, film, neuroscience, mathematical logic, climate change, China, etc.

The creation of the New York Chapter has been possible only thanks to the dedication and hard work of a group of people, who believe in the importance of connecting all of the Italian talent that continues to arrive in North America. My wish is that our enthusiasm will be contagious and the number of members will quickly grow. If anyone is interested in participating in the activities of the chapter to help this wish come true, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Riccardo Lattanzi

Chairman of the New York Chapter
